Today, after extending its temporary administrative stay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruling in Louisiana v. FDA, the United States Supreme Court granted the request from Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro to restore access to mifepristone, the first drug used in a common two-drug medication abortion regimen, via the mail, while the court considers the manufacturers’ appeal.

Reproductive Equity Now Statement After Supreme Court Temporarily Restores Telehealth Mifepristone Access
Today, the United States Supreme Court issued an ordertemporarily restoring access to mifepristone, the first drug used in a common two-drug medication abortion regimen, via the mail and retail pharmacy. The order, issued by Justice Samuel Alito, the justice who manages emergency requests regarding the Fifth Circuit, imposes a temporary pause on a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruling from Friday night that reinstated medically unnecessary restrictions on mifepristone, until at least May 11. Justice Alito ordered Louisiana to respond by Thursday at 5 p.m. From there, the full U.S. Supreme Court will determine how to proceed.

Massachusetts is one of 22 states with laws designed to protect abortion and sometimes transgender care providers from criminal, civil and licensing charges filed by residents of other states. Several challenges to these laws are moving through state courts.
New Report Shows Number of Out-of-State Abortions from Massachusetts Providers Doubled from 2023 to 2024
Reproductive Equity Now released the following statement in response to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s release of the latest 2024 abortion data. This report shows a significant increase in the number of abortions provided to out-of-state patients, with 27, 836 individuals accessing care from Massachusetts providers — nearly double the number reported in 2023.
Proposed 20 Week Abortion Ban Defeated in New Hampshire
Today, Christina Warriner Hamilton, New Hampshire State Director for Reproductive Equity Now, released a statement after the New Hampshire House of Representatives abandoned a 20 Week Abortion Ban (HB 1590), legislation that would have further restricted abortion access in New Hampshire, by failing to advance it out of the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
Reproductive Equity Now Advocates for Equitable Coverage for Fertility Care, Contraception, and Gender-Affirming Care
Yesterday, Reproductive Equity Now’s Connecticut State Director, Liz Gustafson, testified in front of the Human Services Committee in support of both H.B. 5482, An Act Concerning Twelve Month Coverage for Contraception and Hormone Therapy, and H.B. 5483, An Act Concerning Fertility Care Under The Medicaid Program. These bills will increase access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care by ensuring that fertility care, a 12-month supply of hormonal birth control, and a 12-month supply of gender-affirming care are available to Connecticut residents enrolled in HUSKY, the state’s Medicaid program. Currently, the state mandates that only some private insurers cover these services.
