Reproductive Equity Now: New Hampshire

Investment in New Hampshire is critical at this moment of crisis—for both New Hampshire residents and people traveling to our region for care

The State of Access in
New Hampshire

Granite Staters share a deep commitment to reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, and dignity in health care. But following decades of attacks on these values from New Hampshire executive and legislative leaders—including the state’s first modern day abortion ban enacted in just 2021—there is work to do to protect and expand access to reproductive health care.

While abortion currently remains legal in New Hampshire, it is the only state in New England that has not codified the right into state law. Now, New Hampshire is just one election away from eroding access to care further.

Meet Our New Hampshire State Director:

Christina Warriner

Christina Warriner joined Reproductive Equity Now in the summer of 2023 as the New Hampshire State Director to lead the organization’s expansion into the Granite State. Christina is a Concord, New Hampshire native who has seen firsthand how her family's ability to gain knowledge and assert agency over their own reproductive health has impacted their lives.

Christina has more than eight years of experience spanning campaign management and strategy, non-profit community engagement and advocacy, and public service. Her professional experiences in the Granite State include serving as a North Country regional field director during the 2020 New Hampshire primary, enhancing and diversifying New Futures’ advocacy efforts during the 2021 legislative session, and most recently joining the board of New Leaders Council (NLC) New Hampshire as co-curriculum director.

This past spring, she graduated with her Masters in Social Work from Boston College, where she focused on social policy and community-driven interventions.

We want to ensure that every New Hampshire resident has the ability to decide if, when, and how to become a parent, and that when they choose to start a family, they have the ability to raise children with dignity. Advancing reproductive equity in New Hampshire is key to making New England a regional block for abortion access.

Reproductive Equity Now is investing in civic engagement and voter education to help shift the tides in the Granite State and oust anti-abortion politicians from office. We’re excited to educate, activate, and advocate around reproductive equity and we have a proven record of building relationships, advising policy, and passing bold laws that will help fuel our work throughout Northern New England.

Critical work is being done in New Hampshire to confront and end anti-abortion legislative attacks and improve maternal health outcomes, including passage of the Momnibus Act this year. We are bringing our expertise and support to a coalition of incredible advocates who are building movement power, electing champions for reproductive freedom, and lobbying the legislature on pro-repro policy. Together, we will create a collaborative, well-resourced, regional coalition that fosters a pro-active agenda to advance reproductive freedom.

Our Work in New Hampshire:

Protecting abortion rights in the New Hampshire State Constitution

New Hampshire is currently the only state in New England without protections for abortion. In 2024, we can change that.

In December 2023, Repro Equity Now joined with New Hampshire lawmakers and advocates to introduce a Constitutional Amendment in the Legislature to enshrine abortion protections into the state constitution and ensure that you have the ability and right to make your own decisions about pregnancy.

Abortion access should never hinge on the whims and agendas of politicians. Your reproductive health care decisions should be in the hands of you and your provider.

New Hampshire Legislative Work

Repro Equity Now Testified In Support of:

  • Without federal or state protections for abortion, every election could determine whether care remains legal in the state. CACR 23 would put a question on the November ballot to enshrine abortion into the state constitution and allow voters to have a say in their own health care.

Read Repro Equity Now’s testimony in support of CACR 23 HERE.

  • As the Supreme Court prepares to decide whether to reinstitute medically unnecessary restrictions on mifepristone, the NH House of Representatives can show its affirmative support for protecting and expanding access to medication abortion in New Hampshire.

Read Repro Equity Now’s testimony in support of HCR 11 HERE.

  • By enacting SB 461 and repealing RSA 329:49 of the Fetal Life Protection Act, the legislature can take a critical step to pave the way for future action to codify the right to an abortion into state law.

Read Repro Equity Now’s testimony on SB 461 HERE.

  • While advocates and legislators await a Supreme Court decision about the future of mifepristone access, the legislature has an opportunity to protect and expand access to critical medications for reproductive health care, including medication abortion.

Repro Equity Now Testified In Opposition to:

  • HB 1248’s 15-day abortion ban—essentially a total abortion ban—would make New Hampshire one of the most restrictive states in the country for abortion access.

Read Repro Equity Now’s testimony in opposition to HB 1248 HERE.

  • HB 1541 would impose medically unnecessary and medically unsound restrictions on abortion care in the second trimester, hurting both Granite State patients and providers.

The Executive Council
just voted to defund
New Hampshire’s reproductive & sexual health clinics.

New Hampshire’s Executive Council has now voted five consecutive times to deny the state’s reproductive health clinics funding for family planning programs. This loss of funding will prevent New Hampshire communities and patients from accessing low-cost, essential health care like birth control, annual exams, pregnancy tests, STI tests and treatment, and cancer screenings.

With four out of five Councilors voting against the public health interests of their constituents, we must continue to raise our voices and hold the Executive Council accountable for this attack on our reproductive health care.
