Statement on Susan Moran’s Special Election Win
BOSTON, Mass. – Rebecca Hart Holder, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the Commonwealth’s leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization, issued the following statement on Susan Moran’s win in the special election for the Plymouth and Barnstable Senate District:
“I’d like to extend a much-deserved congratulations to Senator-elect Moran. She ran an amazing campaign, overcame unprecedented obstacles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and proved yet again that supporting reproductive freedom is a winning strategy.
“Not only is this a great day for Senator-elect Moran, it’s a great day for her new constituents and their fellow Bay Staters. Her victory flipped a seat that had been previously held by a staunch anti-choice politician and prevented it from falling into the hands of another. Her opponent would have ignored science and medical experts in favor of a radical, anti-choice agenda to attempt to undermine reproductive freedom and restrict access to essential reproductive health care, much to the detriment of the Commonwealth.
“Susan Moran will be a champion for the women and families of Massachusetts. Now more than ever, we need leaders with her unwavering commitment to protecting reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy. We’re excited to work with her and her colleagues in the Senate to expand reproductive freedom, remove medically unnecessary barriers to abortion care, and pass the ROE Act.”
