Statement on Baker Administration’s Abortion Guidance During COVID-19

Boston, Mass – NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the Bay State’s leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization, released the following statement in response to the Baker Administration’s guidance on abortion care during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“We thank the Baker Administration for working to preserve continued access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care, including abortion care during this unprecedented public health crisis. On Sunday evening, Governor Baker announced a ban on elective surgery at hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers. This morning, the Administration issued guidance making clear that abortion care should continue at hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers. Reproductive health care decisions are time-sensitive and patients need speedy access to care. We recognize the intense strain COVID-19 has put and will continue to put on the healthcare system and we are grateful to the Administration for listening to our concerns and recognizing the unique impact of COVID-19 on maintaining access to reproductive health care. Massachusetts is a national healthcare trendsetter and we hope that other states follow the Baker Administration’s example in preserving access to abortion care. We applaud and thank the Governor for his leadership under such difficult circumstances.”
