Reproductive Equity Now Slams Trump's Executive Order Attacking Access to Health Care for Transgender Youth
On Tuesday night, Trump signed an executive order that seeks to end health care for transgender young people
BOSTON (January 29, 2024) – Last night, President Donald Trump issued an executive order seeking to end gender-affirming medical treatments for people under the age of 19. In response, Reproductive Equity Now President Rebecca Hart Holder released the following statement condemning the President’s actions, and reminding the public that the fights for transgender health care and abortion access require a coordinated and integrated response.
“The fight for reproductive equity and health care for trans people are the same fight. They are about bodily autonomy, dignity, and protecting the rights of people to make deeply personal health care decisions free from political interference. Trump’s executive order to strip away health care from young transgender people will have devastating consequences for the safety and well-being of young people. This repugnant executive order comes as no surprise. Banning access to essential health care – whether it be gender-affirming or reproductive care – is a pillar of the Trump agenda to control our bodies and our freedoms. This is a page directly out of the Project 2025 playbook,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, President of Reproductive Equity Now. “Trump will use any tool at his disposal–constitutional or not–to attack our care. Having a strategic, coordinated, and intersectional coalition stand up to a hostile federal administration has never been more important. Together, we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGTBQ+ community to ensure every person is able to access the health care they want and need, without political interference or oppression.”
Attacks on both reproductive health care and gender-affirming care are on the rise following the Dobbs decision. In New Hampshire, there are currently two dangerous, anti-LGBTQ+ bills that threaten to restrict access to transgender health care. Specifically, these bills would ban access to essential gender-affirming medication (HB 377) and ban gender-affirming top surgeries for young people (HB 712). This Monday, Reproductive Equity Now announced that fighting back against these restrictions on transgender health care are a part of its 2025 New Hampshire Legislative Agenda.
