Reproductive Equity Now Releases Statement on Amended Legislation Restricting Access to Birth Control for Young People

S.B. 72 as amended would require parental consent for minors to access birth control

CONCORD (May 6, 2025) – Reproductive Equity Now’s New Hampshire State Director, Christina Warriner, released the following statement after the House Children and Family Law Committee adopted an amendment to S.B. 72 on party lines that would require young people looking to access birth control to obtain parental consent.

“At a time when reproductive rights are under constant attack, New Hampshire lawmakers should be working to expand access to birth control— not restrict it,” said Christina Warriner, New Hampshire State Director of Reproductive Equity Now. “Adding bureaucratic roadblocks to care only increases the risk of unintended pregnancies and jeopardizes the futures of those who may not have safe or supportive relationships at home. This past year, New Hampshire Republicans ran on a platform to not further restrict our reproductive freedoms, and we expect them to live up to their word. Reproductive Equity Now calls on the House of Representatives to reject this harmful amendment and stand up for the health, privacy, and dignity of young Granite Staters.”

New Hampshire currently has one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in the nation, due largely to the current availability of preventative services for those who need them. In addition to this proposed amendment to S.B. 72, last month the New Hampshire House advanced a state budget proposal that fully eliminates the New Hampshire Family Planning Program. New Hampshire Family Planning Program, a program with a 53-year history of providing low-cost, preventative sexual and reproductive health care, including birth control, to thousands of Granite Staters.
