Reproductive Equity Now Foundation Launches Statewide Awareness Campaign for Connecticut Abortion Legal Hotline
Since 2024, the Abortion Legal Hotline has provided free and confidential abortion care legal guidance in Connecticut
HARTFORD (February 2, 2026) – As the Trump Administration and anti-abortion actors across the nation ramp up attacks on abortion access, the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation announced today in a press conference, alongside Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and several hotline partners, the launch of an awareness campaign for the Abortion Legal Hotline in Connecticut.
Reproductive Equity Now Foundation’s Abortion Legal Hotline is a free and confidential legal resource built in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office of Connecticut and several legal partners in the state. Since expanding into Connecticut in 2024, the hotline has helped connect Connecticut-based health care providers and helpers, as well as patients obtaining care in Connecticut, with free and confidential legal advice and resources about their rights to access and provide lawful abortion care.
“Across the country, more and more reports continue to emerge regarding patients and providers in states where abortion is legal being surveilled, investigated, and indicted for seeking or providing life-saving, life-affirming abortion care — and everyday patients and providers are becoming more and more frightened,” said Liz Gustafson, Connecticut State Director of Reproductive Equity Now. “As disinformation about abortion care runs rampant and out-of-state anti-abortion actors escalate attacks on patients and providers, it is vital that Nutmeggers understand their right to access and provide legal abortion care. Our free and confidential Abortion Legal Hotline ensures that patients and providers can receive clear, trusted guidance about their rights — without fear. Through this awareness campaign, we hope to connect more people to this critical resource and help replace fear of retribution with clarity, confidence, and support.”
“Abortion is safe, legal and accessible in Connecticut, and we’re fighting on all fronts to keep it that way. That includes making sure patients, providers and helpers have access to free, accurate, confidential information and advice through the Connecticut Abortion Legal Hotline. I want to thank Reproductive Equity Now for their leadership and partnership in this important effort, and the attorneys from across Connecticut who have provided pro bono support,” said Attorney General Tong.
“Our goal is simple: to make sure that patients and healthcare providers understand their rights when making life-changing healthcare decisions,” said Attorney Chris Mattei, a partner at the Connecticut law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. “As lawyers, we have a special obligation to defend people whose rights are threatened, and we are proud to stand with women in defense of their rights to make basic decisions about their own healthcare.”
“The Abortion Legal Hotline is an invaluable resource for the REACH Fund of Connecticut. The REACH Fund is Connecitcut’s only abortion fund that helps people pay for their abortions. We are an all volunteer run organization so having access to free and confidential legal advice is critical for us to continue to do this work. It is extremely difficult to interpret the abortion access landscape–especially when it is changing so quickly. Thanks to the REN Foundation and the attorney general’s partnership; patients, providers, helpers, and advocates have access to over 250 attorneys to help them navigate the uncertainty,” said Cassie Lehr, Board Member of the REACH Fund of Connecticut.
This awareness campaign includes a comprehensive mix of digital and out-of-home advertising designed to reach patients and providers in Connecticut where they live, work, and travel. Digital ads will run for six weeks, while six out-of-home posters and 20 digital billboards will rotate in high-traffic locations across Hartford and New Haven for four weeks, ensuring sustained visibility and broad reach throughout the region.
