NEW POLL: Reproductive Equity Now Foundation Finds Support for Expanding Abortion Access Throughout Pregnancy Among Bay Staters
BOSTON (March 5, 2025) – The Reproductive Equity Now Foundation today unveiled new polling showing that two in three (66%) Massachusetts voters support expanding abortion access throughout pregnancy based on the professional judgment of a licensed physician. The poll affirmed Bay Staters’ support for keeping health care decisions between patients and their doctors.
“The polling is clear: Massachusetts voters support expanding abortion access throughout pregnancy and keeping politics out of the exam room,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, President of the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation. “Even with the exceptions stated in Massachusetts’ current law, dozens of patients are still forced to travel out of our Commonwealth for abortion care later in pregnancy every year. There are no exceptions that can account for every unique pregnancy experience. These situations are complex, and patients deserve respect and autonomy to make informed health care decisions with the support and expertise of their doctor. As reproductive freedom is under attack nationwide, Massachusetts residents clearly support patients’ ability to access care in their home state at any point in pregnancy.”

Massachusetts statute currently includes a 24-week restriction on abortion care. Despite progress made in the ROE Act and in 2022 to expand access to abortion later in pregnancy, this arbitrary restriction still forces dozens of patients to travel out of state for abortion later in pregnancy every year.
There is consistently high support for broadening abortion access across various regions of the state, as well as among Black and Hispanic voters. Forty percent of registered Republicans also support expanding access to care throughout pregnancy based on the best professional judgment of a physician. The same polling reveals that 89% of Massachusetts voters believe abortion should be legal.
This polling was conducted by EMC Research on a sample of 500 Massachusetts voters in December of 2024.
Earlier this year, Reproductive Equity Now, the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation’s sister organization, announced its agenda for the 2025-26 Massachusetts legislative session. The organization’s priorities are aimed at expanding abortion access later in pregnancy, standing up to federal attacks on reproductive health care, and further protecting abortion and gender-affirming care providers.
