New Hampshire House Votes to Withdraw 15-Week Abortion Ban
Over 12,000 Granite Staters registered their opposition to HB 476
CONCORD, NH (February 6th, 2025) – This afternoon, the New Hampshire House voted in favor of a motion to withdraw HB 476, a bill that would have banned abortion care in New Hampshire after 15 weeks. The motion to withdraw passed the House with an overwhelming majority of bipartisan support. This vote comes just one week after more than 12,000 Granite Staters registered their opposition to this bill in advance of its public hearing in the House Judiciary Committee.
“The outpouring of opposition to the proposed 15-week abortion ban makes abundantly clear that Granite Staters will not tolerate continued attacks on their right to abortion care,” said Christina Warriner, New Hampshire State Director for Reproductive Equity Now. “Restrictions on abortion care are an attack on bodily autonomy and an affront to Granite State values, and should be wholeheartedly rejected by the New Hampshire legislature. Both Governor Kelly Ayotte and the House Majority leaders campaigned on a promise not to further interfere with Granite Staters’ right to access abortion care, and we must hold them accountable to this promise. Now that this extreme ban has been rejected by the House, we must double down on our opposition to other attacks on bodily autonomy and personal freedom, such as attacks on reproductive health care and LGBTQ+ rights. We can start by pushing the legislature to affirm that abortion care is basic health care and by taking steps to improve maternal health outcomes in our state.”
Polling suggests 78% of New Hampshire residents believe there should be a right to get an abortion in every state in the United States. 66% of likely New Hampshire voters oppose a 15-week abortion ban, with 68% of Independents opposing the restriction.
