With Roe v. Wade in the Balance, Reproductive Equity Now Launches First-Ever New England Abortion Care Guide

Users can search by zip code for local abortion care providers

Guide also flags dangerous, illegitimate crisis pregnancy centers in New England

BOSTON (April 12, 2022) – With the U.S. Supreme Court prepared to decide Dobbs v. Jackson this summer, a case that will likely dismantle abortion protections enshrined in Roe v. Wade, Reproductive Equity Now today launched a first-of-its-kind New England Abortion Care Guide to serve as a single place for pregnant people throughout the region, and beyond, to learn about care options available to them. The online guide allows users to search by zip code for local hospitals and clinics that provide abortion care, and provides information about state-by-state abortion costs, abortion funds, and health care coverage. When a user searches by zip code, the resource also flags dangerous crisis pregnancy centers in the area, or fake clinics that masquerade as legitimate health care providers offering comprehensive reproductive health care, when in reality, the facilities aim to manipulate and dissuade pregnant people from receiving abortions.* In Massachusetts, crisis pregnancy centers outnumber legitimate reproductive health care clinics three to one.

“With Roe v. Wade in the balance, New England can and must be the leader in protecting access to abortion. The New England Abortion Care guide will connect pregnant people across the Northeast with the resources and information to make a well-informed, personal decision about their reproductive health care,” said Reproductive Equity Now Executive Director Rebecca Hart Holder. “As state legislatures across the country work to implement extreme and dangerous abortion bans and restrictions, it’s more important than ever before that people have access to clear, detailed, and accurate information about abortion care providers in their area. And for those traveling to Massachusetts for abortion care, this guide will be a critical resource to find legitimate, unbiased providers, and flag dangerous crisis pregnancy centers throughout the state. Information means access, and as Reproductive Equity Now works to destigmatize abortion and increase access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care, this centralized resource will help thousands of people across New England know what to expect at all stages of abortion care.”

The online New England Abortion Care Guide can be found HERE. A Spanish translation of the abortion guide is forthcoming.

Reproductive Equity Now, formerly known as NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, is a grassroots organization focused on passing policies to promote reproductive health equity. The Abortion Care Guide is the organization’s first New England-wide project.

*Crisis pregnancy centers have historically opened and closed without notice. If you know of any new crisis pregnancy centers in your area, please reach out to our team at Reproductive Equity Now so that we can add it to our search tool.
