Reproductive Equity Now PAC Endorses Lydia Edwards
Reproductive Equity Now PAC endorses first candidate since launch of new organization
Boston, MA (December 8, 2021) — Reproductive Equity Now PAC, the political arm of Massachusetts’ leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization, today proudly endorsed Lydia Edwards for Massachusetts state Senate in the 1st Suffolk and Middlesex District. Edwards is the first candidate to be endorsed by the newly-launched Reproductive Equity Now PAC, and her commitment to bold legislative action on reproductive equity issues earned her this endorsement.
The Board of Reproductive Equity Now endorsed Lydia Edwards because she embodies the mission of the movement to advance and protect reproductive health care equity. Edwards’ years of involvement in reproductive rights advocacy has established her as a leader in the space. She went above and beyond to pass the ROE Act in Massachusetts, testifying and campaigning with Reproductive Equity Now to build support for this hallmark legislation. As a Boston City Councilor, she successfully passed the most progressive paid leave policy in the country, allowing parents paid leave, no questions asked, for any end of pregnancy — including abortion, miscarriage, and stillbirth. She has also been a fierce advocate and supporter of the CROWN Act, which serves as a crucial issue of racial justice and bodily autonomy.
“In the Senate, Lydia will advance bold legislation addressing reproductive equity issues,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, Executive Director of Reproductive Equity Now. “She’s a fellow sister in the reproductive rights movement, and is someone we know will have your back and ours. The voters of the 1st Suffolk and Middlesex District deserve a State Senator who will protect their right to equitable and accessible reproductive health care, and Lydia’s track record as an advocate proves that she’ll work tirelessly as champion of reproductive equity for her constituents and for the Commonwealth.”
“I’m honored to have received this endorsement from an organization that I’ve worked with and admired for years,” City Councilor Lydia Edwards said. “In order to achieve equitable access to our reproductive rights, we have to work together as a community and advance progressive legislative action. If recent news has shown us anything, it's that those of us who understand what’s at risk need to help each other be bold. To not just win, but run boldly on our positions and legislate just as boldly. That’s what I hope to do as Massachusetts State Senator.”
The primary special election for the 1st Suffolk and Middlesex District seat takes place on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, or voters can cast their ballots early this week.
