Reproductive Equity Now Foundation Statement on Lawsuit Filed By Anti-Abortion Center, Your Options Medical

Yesterday, RENF filed a Motion to Dismiss the lawsuit

BOSTON (October 29, 2024) – Reproductive Equity Now Foundation (RENF) President Rebecca Hart Holder today released the following statement in response to the lawsuit filed in August against the organization by anti-abortion center, Your Options Medical. The Reproductive Equity Now Foundation yesterday filed a Motion to Dismiss the case.

“The Reproductive Equity Now Foundation is committed to ensuring abortion seekers across New England have access to legitimate, unbiased reproductive health care and full options counseling. This lawsuit, brought by Your Options Medical, is an attempt to silence our organization and prevent us from exercising our First Amendment protected right to free speech. We will not be intimidated by this lawsuit, and we will always fight for New England patients and their ability to access the reproductive health care that is right for them,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, President of the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation.

The lawsuit brought by Your Options Medical, an organization that operates anti-abortion centers in Massachusetts, concerns RENF's work to shed light on the potential dangers of anti-abortion centers, and a complaint that RENF filed with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health urging an investigation into Your Options Medical’s potentially deceptive advertising. The plaintiff is represented by attorneys from The American Center for Law & Justice and Massachusetts Liberty Legal Center, two conservative, anti-abortion legal organizations.

This June, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts launched a first-in-the-nation public education campaign highlighting the dangers of anti-abortion centers, also called “crisis pregnancy centers.” Anti-abortion centers often look like medical facilities and purport to offer the full spectrum of reproductive health care while, in reality, they often mislead people about their options if they are pregnant and instead seek to dissuade them from accessing abortion care.
