Reproductive Equity Now Applauds Reproductive Health Equity Investments in Massachusetts House State Budget
BOSTON (April 30, 2026) – Yesterday, the Massachusetts House of Representatives advanced its annual budget for Fiscal Year 2027. Included in the budget are several priorities championed by Reproductive Equity Now as part of the organization’s efforts to urge the legislature to invest in reproductive health care access for Bay Staters.
“As the Trump Administration doubles down on their efforts to limit access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care nationwide, the Massachusetts Legislature is once again stepping up and affirmatively defending and expanding Bay Staters’ access to care,” said Kathleen Melendy, Massachusetts State Director for Reproductive Equity Now. “We know that as threats to abortion access grow across the country, more and more patients are relying on Bay State providers and abortion funds to access the care they need. At this moment of crisis, we are deeply grateful to our reproductive leaders on Beacon Hill, including House Speaker Ron Mariano and Ways and Means Chair Aaron Michlewitz, for meeting this moment and prioritizing our abortion providers and funds with the support they need to continue serving Bay Staters. We look forward to seeing the Senate’s budget draft, and implore them to build upon the foundation laid by the House by further investing in key reproductive equity priorities.”
Several reproductive health equity investments were included in the House budget:
A $500k increase in funding for Reproductive Health Access, Infrastructure, and Security (Amendment 1697), put forward by Representative Marjorie Decker
Investments in birth centers across the state (Amendments 353 and 553) championed by Bay State Birth Coalition, put forward by Representatives Lindsay Sabadosa and David LeBoeuf
Funding for Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts to support reimbursement for sexual and reproductive health care services in the wake of defunding at the hands of the Trump Administration (Amendment 453), put forward by Representative Dawne Shand
