Repro Equity Now Statement After Trump Administration Cuts Millions in Title X Funding for Planned Parenthood Clinics
Cuts will impact New England clinics; Repro Equity Now stands ready to support Planned Parenthood
BOSTON (April 1, 2025) – Today, Rebecca Hart Holder, President of Reproductive Equity Now, released the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) formally announced that it will be freezing Title X funding for thirteen Planned Parenthood affiliates, citing their refusal to end Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices. Title X funding provides access to critical preventative care like low-cost/free birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment. According to Physicians for Reproductive Health, in 2022, through Title X funds, providers at sexual and reproductive health care clinics across the country were able to serve 2.6 million family planning patients. Title X funds cannot be used for abortion care.
“Let’s be clear: this is more than a budget cut. This is a death sentence for thousands of people across the country – and it’s intentional. Built on racism and classism, this freeze aims to send a message to people across the country: ‘If you can’t afford birth control, you don’t deserve it. If you can’t pay for cancer screenings, we won’t help you. If you need STI testing or treatment, tough luck — figure it out yourself.’ By weaponizing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts, the Trump administration is punishing providers for prioritizing equity in health care and explicitly targeting the very communities Title X was created to serve: Black and brown patients, LGBTQ+ people, and low-income families. This is a direct attack on our families, our neighbors, and our communities who are trying to access basic, critical health care. We proudly stand with Planned Parenthood as they work to navigate this egregious funding cut. We know that despite this dreadful and dangerous decision, Planned Parenthood remains unwavering and unfettered in their mission to ensure everyone can access the health care they need – and we remain ready to support them.”
Of the region that Reproductive Equity Now serves, this freeze directly impacts Planned Parenthood of Northern New England New Hampshire clinics and Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, serving Connecticut and Rhode Island. Health centers part of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts are not directly impacted.
