Reproductive Equity Now Launches 2026 Connecticut Legislative Agenda
READ: This year, REN is prioritizing protecting providers, expanding patient access to care, and supporting our partners through coalition-led advocacy
HARTFORD, CT (February 4, 2026) – Reproductive Equity Now announced its agenda for the 2026 Connecticut legislative session. The organization’s priorities for the 2026 session include efforts to bolster shield protections for abortion providers, working to protect and expand access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care, and supporting allies through coalition-driven advocacy.
“Connecticut has a responsibility to both defend our residents from federal attacks and continue to work proactively to expand access to abortion care and the full spectrum of reproductive health care,” said Liz Gustafson, Connecticut State Director for Reproductive Equity Now. “As the Trump Administration ramps up attacks on abortion and health care access, we must be swift and decisive to ensure Nutmeggers are able to access the care and insurance coverage they need, on their own terms. We must also take strong measures to protect our providers and invest in the ecosystem of care. As the care landscape continues to grow more hostile, we must stand firm to protect our state and continue to push for the expansion of abortion access boldly.”
The organization’s 2026 legislative priorities include:
1. Bolstering Our Shield Law To Protect Providers
In the wake of the Dobbs decision, the Connecticut Legislature passed the nation’s first shield law to protect providers and those seeking care in Connecticut. Now, the state has the opportunity to go further and bolster our shield law with key provisions that will protect our providers, who go above and beyond to provide high-quality, compassionate reproductive health care services each and every day.
2. Protecting Patient Access To Reproductive And Gender-Affirming Health Care
Reproductive Equity Now is committed to safeguarding access to comprehensive, equitable, affirming health care for all patients in Connecticut. As political attacks on abortion care and gender-affirming care intensify nationwide, we are working to ensure that patients, providers, and support networks are protected from interference, criminalization, and misinformation.
3. Supporting Coalition Partners
Reproductive Equity Now is proud to stand in coalition with our advocacy partners to work towards equitable access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care for each and every person without barriers.
