Boston (February 28, 2022) – Reproductive Equity Now Executive Director Rebecca Hart Holder released the following statement today after United States Senate Republicans blocked the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation that would enshrine in federal law the right to access and perform abortion care.

“Tonight, Senate Republicans blocked the Women's Health Protection Act and ignored the voices of the American people who are demanding that reproductive health care be protected across the country,” said Rebecca Hart Holder. “We are again reminded the battle for legal and accessible abortion will be fought and won in the states. Abortion restrictions disproportionately impact those who already face barriers to accessing health care—including Black, Indigenous and other people of color, women, those working to make ends meet, members of the LGBTQI+ community, immigrants, young people, those living in rural communities, and people with disabilities. Whether its abortion access, paid family and medical leave, or universal child care, state advocates will not stop fighting in our legislatures until every person can receive the vital health care they want and families are able to raise their children in a safe and healthy home.”
