Northampton Voters Advance Six NARAL City Champions to General

BOSTON – NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the Commonwealth’s leading reproductive freedom advocacy organization, proudly celebrates the six NARAL MA City Champions from Northampton who advanced to the general election after today’s prelims. Mayoral candidate Gina-Louise Sciarra, City Councilors Karen Foster and Rachel Maiore, as well as City Council candidates Marissa Elkins, Jamila Gore, and Jesse Hassinger all took the NARAL MA City Champion pledge.

One hundred and twenty candidates for mayor and city council seats across Massachusetts have signed the pledge since it was unveiled in August. Candidates who take the pledge commit to supporting reproductive freedom in their cities by embracing key policy positions such as defending the right to abortion access, advocating for comprehensive and inclusive sexual education in public schools, exposing crisis pregnancy centers, and helping to increase access to affordable early childhood care and education.

“I’m pleased that so many of our Northampton City Champions are moving on to the general election. I congratulate all of them for running great campaigns and thank them for their unapologetic support of reproductive freedom,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, Executive Director of NARAL MA. “Northampton’s city government is poised to be led by an excellent group of pro-choice champions. This kind of leadership will have a very positive impact on the lives of all Northampton residents.”

Year after year, Bay Staters make it clear that supporting reproductive freedom is a winning position. NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts is confident that City Champions in Northampton and all across the Commonwealth will continue to win throughout the local election cycle.
