Reproductive Equity Now Celebrates Appointment of Kate Walsh to Lead Health and Human Services

BOSTON (January 25, 2023) – Reproductive Equity Now President Rebecca Hart Holder released the following statement today applauding the appointment of Boston Medical Center CEO Kate Walsh as Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“The fall of Roe v. Wade has worsened already harmful reproductive health inequities, especially for Black, Brown, immigrant, LGBTQ+, and disabled people. At this moment of crisis, the leader of the Commonwealth’s largest health agency must be someone with a deep commitment and understanding of how we can address the systemic gaps and barriers to care for our most marginalized communities. Kate Walsh is exactly that leader,” said Reproductive Equity Now President Rebecca Hart Holder. “With Kate at the helm, Boston Medical Center has led the way on cutting edge research and innovation to support reproductive health care, understand the disproportionate impact of abortion bans on Black women, and address the social and economic determinants of health that lead to disparities in care. We know she will take this deep knowledge and dedication to equity to her new role as Secretary of Health and Human Services, and we cannot wait to get to work alongside her.”
