Beyond Roe Coalition Statement on Senate Reproductive Health Care Bill

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Senate today released a package with provisions to protect and expand abortion access. The bill follows Senate and House budget investments to expand and protect abortion access, and a House of Representatives proposal including several key components of the Massachusetts Beyond Roe Agenda.

The Beyond Roe Coalition—consisting of Reproductive Equity Now, the ACLU of Massachusetts, and Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts—today released the following statement:

“We are grateful that the Senate has acted to protect abortion and gender-affirming care in Massachusetts—even prior to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision last month. Today’s Senate bill includes many critically important provisions to insulate those providing life-saving reproductive health care and gender-affirming care as well as provisions to expand access to abortion care throughout our Commonwealth.

“Still, more can be done to meet the moment, and Massachusetts lawmakers must do everything in their power to respond to this unprecedented health care crisis. To that end, we urge the Senate to adopt provisions in the House bill to ensure that no one must ever be forced to leave Massachusetts for abortion care. We are grateful to have leadership in the Senate and House who are committed to making Massachusetts a beacon for reproductive freedom in a post-Roe America.”
